Ten years ago, the classrooms barely resembled something you would recognize in a school. Roughly 100 grade 9 and 10 students enrolled in year one. A decade ago, Main Street School of Performing Arts School opened in the former St. Joseph’s School building at 1320 Mainstreet, Hopkins.
Main Street School of Performing Arts (MSSPA) is a tuition-free, public charter high school open to all students in grades 9 though 12 in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. For the past 10 years, our rigorous performing arts and academic curriculum has provided a rewarding environment for student artists to grow.
Students are engaged each day in classes that challenge them to expand their artistry. MSSPA offers classes in Vocal and Instrumental Music, Theatre, Dance and Musical Theatre for students serious about their craft. MSSPA has advanced level classes in all arts areas and offers the option of a college preparatory arts endorsement at graduation. That artistic rigor continues with the fullest performance calendar of any four-year performing arts high school in the Twin Cities.
MSSPA student artists are also expected to excel in core curricular classes. Students also have the opportunity for Advanced Placement (AP) classes in all academic areas. Academic success is a requirement for participation in any and all performance opportunities at MSSPA. The school is in a long term authorizing partnership with the University of St. Thomas, and consistently meets or exceeds all Minnesota State Graduation and AYP standards.
If you are a student artist, or the parent of a student artist, looking for an exceptional performing arts-based learning environment, we invite you to attend an upcoming Information Session or contact us for a personal tour and more information.
